God's purpose for us is not just for us to get saved then sit down to wait for the rapture. Life on a whole is a journey and the Christian life is no exception. As children of God, our journey is purposeful and aims at drawing us into close intimate relationship with our Heavenly Father. It is a journey that reveals who God is but it also teaches us about our self. The more we learn about who we are in Christ, the more empowered and equipped we are to embrace and enjoy the journey before we reach our ultimate destination. Through the ups and downs, the hills and valleys; through the joys and, yes, through the pains, God desires to transport us on a journey filled with hope, forgiveness, healing and victory. From this we know our Christian walk is not just about where we will end up, it is also very much about the journey getting there. When I was a little girl I wanted to be a teenager. When I became a teenager I wanted to be 21. And when I became 21, I wanted to get married and have children. Now that my own kids are 21 and 19, I want life to slow down. All those mile stones I wanted to reach have come and gone all too quickly. We hurry life along because there is something new and exciting about getting to the next stage. But in doing this we can miss out on some teachable moments and some joyful times. I think I was so eager to reach where I wanted to go, I did not allow myself to fully embrace and enjoy the journey between each stage. I'm not talking about regrets. We all have those. I'm talking about being present right where we are, savoring every moment and finding value in the smallest of things. "O man what is good; and what does the Lord require of you But to do justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?" Micah 6:8 Ever been on a road trip?
With the exception of finances, what are the main reasons we opt to go on road trips? The Journey!! Road trips provide adventure. They are scenic. They encourage family time and healthy communication, bringing us closer together. Road trips provide new experiences . All of which increases our anticipation and enjoyment of our destination. Every day is a precious gift from our Heavenly Father and He desires for us to enjoy each one of them. God wants us to live in each moment. It is usually in those seemingly little moments that we experience His wonderful presence. Those moments when we choose to sit at His feet draws us into true intimacy with Him. Is that not how we get to know Him. Spending time with Him, discerning His voice, following His direction, growing in Christ-like character? I do have to say, road trips do not always go smoothly. Sometimes it rains. A drizzle or two but at times major down pour. We might blow a tire here and there. And sometimes, we even lose our direction and get lost. But it doesn't mean we avoid them altogether. The unique thing about our journey in life is God's promise..... "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid....for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you." Deuteronomy 31:6 (NIV) You see, none of us have a promise for tomorrow or the next mile stone we have planned. What we do have is today and His promise to always be with us. So, regardless of whether we experience some rain or thunderstorm, some tire mishap or even lose our way a bit, we are never left to journey alone. original pics from pixabay.com
